Blessings all:

My name is Anniitra Ravenmoon, one of the Nubian Divas, and I'm in on whatever we do to bring our people up on this beautiful dance. I have been dancing since the early 1970's and back then,
we were very scarce, especially anyone as dark as I am. We must reacquaint our Sistas about our dance, so the stereotypes can go away. Just as Jessica said, the first thing our Euro-Sistas ask is it only for people of color. Our circle is forever widening.
I am so excited about the up and coming challenges that we have.
I also am going to be online more because I want to bond with each and every one of you. In the 1970's I did'nt have but one friend of color in the classes with me, and she didn't look black, so she was invited to more events than I was. It is good to have this many divas of color to bond with, also to see your young daughters taking an interest in the dance. I got to meet the great
Nakish at a seminat in the 1970's and I wish I can find her now.
Also "Ta Lat War Dat" which was a tribal troup of all black women
also in the 1970's. It was run by Charlot Bocair. I can't find thes divas. But. Charlot was one of the original founders of Mecda.
There is no trace of these women, because I am still looking.
I'll try to get on line more often so I won't miss anything (smile)

    Hi Beautiful Sistah,
I am Beatrice and have been dancing for quite a few years now,and I first saw Nakish in Jet magazine. I was so inspired by her and so happy to see a beautiful Black woman with her poise and confidence in that picture.
When I first started dance, there weren't but a few Black dancers in this area, and unfortunatley they were more about attitude. However I have been very fortunate and had wonderful experiences with the Denver arts community, as well as having wonderful teachers. I am so glad that I found your website and that there are women of color that truly love and honor this dance.
    Keep those shimmies HOT!!!

I'm so THANKFUL to have meet you on line! I screamed when Jessica was looking for dancers of color to put on the Diva's website. Since then I have found many dancers of color. When I first got into belly dance I only saw my instructor (Somra) and not many other dancers at all in this city! I was so suprised; thinking there had to be more Sistas in the dance! I watched and waited......I eventually met other instructors & performers. Not taking anything away from other ethnic groups, I enjoyed seeing someone like me in dance. I needed something and someone to relate to. It's lonely not seeing anyone who resembles you, period.

I'm proud of my heritage and enjoy seeing others who excell in this dance form, it keeps me driven. Especially when I have the opportunity so show my art to childeren! Girls need the validation to know you can do this too. Besides, we need to pass the torch on to those up & coming.

So keep up the good work Ravenmoon, I'm watching with a smile & warm feeling in my heart!
