And this is why I'm asking for dancers for the September hafla that 'look like' some of my audience- too many white dancers in one show is not balanced- especially in Baltimore. It is a sad reality that many of the clubs don't like to hire dances that are "too dark". Or they let them go when they shouldn't...&#xD;

While the BD community is one of the more welcoming communities I have seen, it is still very nice, and more than comforting to people who are shy or are not yet entirely comfortable , to feel a bit of a boost of confidence to see others involved that "look like them".  Only natural. :)   I hope this documentary goes off well.   &#xD;

Who is involved? Has it started shooting? We have a lot of pioneers and up and coming Bellydancers of Colors that I would love to see.&#xD;

Shira, you are right. There is a lot of racial imbalance in Middle Eastern dance (an ethnic dance) that Bellydancers of Color are still fighting for recognition in. I hope this will change very soon.&#xD;

    <summary type="html">I'm interested in hearing more about the documentary project - I periodically receive emails from women of color asking whether there is room in the belly dance community for them.  Of course, I say yes, and I tell them about some of the lovely dancers I know who can serve as role models for them.  But I'd love to be able to steer them to a video that is full of beautiful dancers that "look like them".  &#xD;

What stage are you at in the project now?  Still looking for video footage?  Which dancers do you have so far?</summary>
