yes I also would like more info on this project. Alot of people don't understand this imbalance pleages us all. we are missing out on talented role models for new dancers.

*sigh* So true. While the BD community is one of the more welcoming communities I have seen, it is still very nice, and more than comforting to people who are shy or are not yet entirely comfortable , to feel a bit of a boost of confidence to see others involved that "look like them". Only natural. :) I hope this documentary goes off well. Any word? Perhaps they are so busy with their work, they've forgotten about their Tribe group! :D As an aside: Shira, who are these role models you mention?? Thanks!

Have there been any updates on this? I would love to see this happen. Who is involved? Has it started shooting? We have a lot of pioneers and up and coming Bellydancers of Colors that I would love to see. Shira, you are right. There is a lot of racial imbalance in Middle Eastern dance (an ethnic dance) that Bellydancers of Color are still fighting for recognition in. I hope this will change very soon. Sukkar

I'm interested in hearing more about the documentary project - I periodically receive emails from women of color asking whether there is room in the belly dance community for them. Of course, I say yes, and I tell them about some of the lovely dancers I know who can serve as role models for them. But I'd love to be able to steer them to a video that is full of beautiful dancers that "look like them". What stage are you at in the project now? Still looking for video footage? Which dancers do you have so far?
