I've been belly dancing and teaching since the late '70's. I've travelled to Rakkasah West a couple of times, one of Amaya's Shake and Bake's Acapulco one year, travel and teach dance semniars throughout the mid-west, danced at RenFests for about 16 years, design and make costumes... Let me know how I can be of any help.

Fri, June 3, 2005 - 7:35 AMI've just obtained Amaya's Gypsy Fire. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a very good documentary, with some dancing instructions. She's a very passionate and confident dancer. I like the fact that she too is a dancer of colour.
I have heard a lot of great things about the Shake and Bake. Tell me more!
How can we help you, more, in the making of this documentary?

Re: I'm On
Fri, June 3, 2005 - 7:55 AMI'll have to check into this!
As far how everyone can help, I just need to hear your stories....and spread the word that this project is in the making.
I'm working on trying to get a distribution deal. The initial plan was to have this film do the film festival rounds but now I'm thinking that DVD availability would be a MUST as well. Various legalities to consider/work out but that is what I'm working on at the moment....thinking down the road!! :) -

Re: I'm On
Fri, June 3, 2005 - 3:57 PMI have to say that I am "new" to the scene of being a dancer of color because I didn't get serious about this until 3 years ago (even being introduced to it at about the age of 3 or so). My mother would be a great person to get info from, so when the time comes Stephanie (which is also my mother's name... funny huh?) let me know and we can both give a 30 year perspective of cabaret vs. tribal in the North East and the South ... if you are interested!
